‘How to write an excellent experience reference letter for ACS skill assessment?’ You must have this question pop up in your mind if you are planning to write an RPL report. In addition, many questions, confusions and doubts must try to occupy your mind.

To have a solution to all these problems, all you have to do is to read this blog. Here, we will give you a clear idea of how to prepare this document. In addition, our given tips will also help you write an excellent reference letter.

The only thing that can help you write the best experience reference letter for ACS skill assessment is your knowledge. So, read this entire blog, but before that, know clearly what a reference letter is.

What is an experience reference letter for RPL ACS assessment?

An experience reference letter, or an employment reference letter, is an official document you must submit with your RPL report. By means of this reference letter, you show your entire details of professional work, skills and experience. In other words, it is a medium for you to show your IT competency to fulfill particular tasks. In a nutshell, this document allows you to show your knowledge and skills in the occupation you chose.

So far, we think you have a clear idea of this document. Now, let’s step ahead to learn how to prepare it. The better you prepare it, the higher chance you will have to attain a successful RPL ACS skill assessment.

How to write an exceptional experience reference letter?

  1. Your work experience must sound at a professional ICT level. In addition, it must be relevant to the occupation (ANZSCO) you have chosen to apply for.
  2. It is a must for you to accumulate sufficient work experience before you apply for the ACS skill assessment. For that, pay heed to the minimum work experience criteria you have to fulfill.
  3. Keep in mind that work experience before satisfying the skill level requirement is unacceptable for skilled employees. In addition, it is also not acceptable for migration points. If it happens, ACS will assess your application as ‘not suitable due to lack of experience’.
  4. You need to write the start and end date of each employment in a DD/MM/YY format in this document. In the case of current employment, write ‘To Date’. Aside from that, mention the date when the reference was written.
  5. Include employment tasks as many as you can in your RPL ACS report experience reference letter. However, your written tasks must be relevant to your chosen nomination. If you don’t do so, your report will be assessed as ‘not suitable due to lack of information’.
  6. Work experience you earned as a part of a qualification is unacceptable for skilled employment. ACS will report it as ‘Concurrent Employment’.
  7. At least 20 hours/week is acceptable as a full-time job. Therefore, if you include full-time or part-time in the reference, fulfill this requirement. In addition, mention the work hours clearly in the employment reference letter.
  8. All references need to have specific information from your employer. This information needs to be about the duties you performed and the skills you used. References without the specific details of your duties will be considered as ‘not suitable due to lack of information’.
  9. You need to write the country’s name in which you worked as an ICT employee. If worked in multiple countries for one company, show the specific dates. In addition, mention the corresponding locations where you worked.
  10. Your employer or any individual with authority must sign your employment reference letter. Aside from that, write their name, position and contact details of the person who made the referral.
  11. An authorized person has to certify your employment reference letter as a valid copy. ACS will accept only the certified copy of the experience reference letter.
  12. You need to have your actual work experience in your reference letter. It’s foolish to copy from other sources.
  13. Your employment reference letter is evidence of your competency, so be more specific to the chosen occupation. In addition, explain the duties and responsibilities you fulfilled in the field. Remember it must be in a way that highlights your plus points.

Format:

You must follow the format to write your employment reference letter for the Australian Computer Society skills assessment:

1. Date of employment:

Write the start and end dates of your employment period in a DD/MM/YY format.

2. Position of job employment:

Include the employment position that you were assigned. In addition, mention the details about for whom you worked.

3. Responsibilities and roles:

Clearly state all the duties you fulfilled in each of your employment records. It must reflect your work and how you have learned. For instance, if worked as a Senior Aeronautical Engineer, mention all the responsibilities and roles you fulfilled. Mention them clearly for the assigned projects in your employment period.

4. Specify the working hours:

Mention clearly whether you did a full-time or part-time job at your employer. In addition, mention the working hours per week in each of your employment records.

5. Country of employment:

Your job can be undertaken from anywhere in this world. So make sure you list the location of the business organization you worked for. Submit an organization letterhead by authorized personnel. (Digital signatures must be acceptable and verifiable).

Your work experience will be unacceptable under the following conditions:

1. If working for more than one employer at the same time:

Only one employment event is acceptable at any given time if finishing one employment period while also working on another.

2. No relevancy to the chosen occupation:

If your job roles and responsibilities don’t harmonize with the chosen profession, your work experience will be unacceptable.

3. Insufficient documentation:

If the provided documentation doesn’t fulfill the Skills Assessment Guidelines, your work experience will be unacceptable. Besides that, if it is insufficient to fulfill the assessment criteria, then your work experience is not acceptable.

4. Lack of details:

The authority will be unable to make an assessment if you provide insufficient information.
