Guidelines For Preparing RPL Australia Report

Posted on August 31, 2021September 9, 2021 By Paul Thomas

Australia has always been a top priority among ICT professionals across the world. If you are an ICT professional and want to work in RPL Australia, you have to apply for a skill assessment to ACS (Australian Computer Society). ACS has the responsibility of selecting candidates who possess sufficient skills to work in the Australian ICT sector but don’t have a proper ICT degree.

What is RPL Report?

In RPL Australia (Recognition of Prior Learning) report is required for the ACS assessment for engineer migration. Those who want to migrate to Australia and work in the ICT sector but do not have a proper diploma or bachelor’s degree in the ICT field can apply to ACS skill Assessment. There are 22,000 ICT members in Australia. Therefore, professionals from other countries with no ICT qualification or inadequate ICT qualifications can showcase their skills and gain an opportunity to contribute to the ICT sector.

As part of the ACS for Australian Skills Migration, ICT professionals must show their credentials and work experience. As a consequence, individuals who lack a tertiary ICT degree must complete an ACS RPL Report Form.

Purpose of RPL report

The primary purpose of the RPL report is to provide the opportunity to non-ICT professionals to demonstrate their skills and abilities. They also have to document how they have acquired those mentioned skills. Thus, the RPL assessment helps the Australian ICT sector acquire raw talents from foreign markets and fill the vacuum of skilled professionals.

Who can apply for the RPL ACS application?

Australian Computer Society (ACS) has specific criteria for RPL skill assessment requirements.

  • If an applicant doesn’t possess a bachelor’s degree or curriculum related to the ICT sector can apply for an RPL assessment. The applicant must have six years of professional experience in core ICT or ICT-related fields. The ANZSCO code must recognize the field experience of candidates.
  • Candidates with zero skills are also eligible for RPL assessment. Given that, they must have eight years of experience.
  • The RPL report should have two parts describing your career highlights and your experience in projects that you’re involved in so far. All the projects need to be recognized by ANZSCO codes. You can check the list of ANZSCO codes on the ACS official website.

How to apply for ACS Skill assessment?

Before applying for assessment, you must go through ACS Skill Assessment Requirement guidelines on their website. You can also check ANZSCO codes to help you identify the work experience category you can apply to.

The following steps need to be followed to apply the skills assessment:

  • You have the opportunity to get skill assessment done by ACS body online
  • You have to be prepared for the PTE examination
  • Express of Interest (EOI) need to be submitted
  • Wait for Invitation to Apply (ITA)
  • Get medical and PCC done
  • Submit your visa fee.

Preparing RPL report

Preparing an RPL report is not an arduous task, as you can make it by yourself. You have to fill the RPL form available on the ACS website. The RPL report is made of two parts:

  • Key areas of knowledge.
  • Project report forms.

In the project section, you must show all the projects you have participated in last three years from the date of visa application. In another report, you also need to mention the projects you completed in the last five years.

Tips for writing the best ACS RPL report:

  • Even though anyone with basic comprehension and articulation skills can prepare the RPL report, but if you want your RPL report to be evaluated positively, you must take certain things.
  • You must write your actual work experience in your RPL report if ACS Skill Assessment Requirement states that you have put false and exaggerated information in your RPL report. Your report not only will be rejected but also proper action will be taken against you.
  • Most importantly, take your time to select your project. Choose those projects where you can illustrate your skills, knowledge, and abilities enlisted in the ANZSCO codes.
  • In the RPL section, you must mention the project details, such as the name of the project, the name of the company which undertook the project. Your roles and responsibilities also need to be stated.
  • Please explain the nature and extent of your duties and skills in information and communications technology (ICT) management.
  • Explain all the methodologies applied in designing and system analysis of each project development. Also, mention the programming language that is used in this project. This will demonstrate your grip on programming language skills.
  • You must describe your role and responsibilities in the project, how your idea was implemented, and how these ideas made a difference. This will help you to demonstrate your vital areas. Even if you have used the ideas of other people, then you also must mention this in your report using proper citation and reference.
  • Mention project management and quality assurance methods used throughout the project development process, demonstrating your managerial abilities. Also, define and describe the security measures that were applied in the project.
  • Database management skill is one of most sought abilities. Hence, you can mention all the database management techniques used in the project. This will help them to understand your database management skill.
  • If you feel confused and lost while preparing an RPL report, you can look on the internet for samples of various RPL reports. However, please do not copy from those samples as ACS is stringent regarding their plagiarism policy. Suppose ACS realizes that you have submitted a plagiarized report. In that case, they will forward this to the IBP department, where you could be banned from further applying.
  • ACS uses Turnitin plagiarism check software to detect if any plagiarized content has been used in your report. However, in many cases, authors unknowingly put similar content in their reports that have been used earlier in other reports. Therefore, we advise you to write down all the reports in your own words and check plagiarism before submitting them.

As you lack the required ICT qualifications, then you must show your competence in the ICT sector. The report must be prepared with utter diligence. ACS skill assessment uses specific parameters for skill assessment.

  • ACS uses different methods of assessment while measuring project management and quality assurance.
  • Apart from your participation, your contribution in design and process in the mentioned project also would be evaluated.
  • To understand system plans and benefits, ACS evaluates ICT managerial activity.
  • The different techniques employed in database design and management also will be evaluated. Therefore, your DBMS skills are required.
  • The language used for creating the system also would be appraised.

If you follow all the points above, you have a bright chance of getting RPL approved. If you are still not confident of writing your RPL Australia report on your own, there are several online services available to help you out.
